Entry/Exit Issues
Arrival to and departure from the United States triggers some of our most complex immigration regulations. Due to our "double check" system (Consulate and Border), each entry is actually a request for a benefit from the Immigration Service. The Firm has significant experience in the various nuances of the specific and numerous regulations that impact our clients when crossing the U.S. border, including the context of the Special Registration requirements for foreign nationals of selected countries post 9/11.
Foreign Visas
In order to accommodate U.S. citizens and immigrant and nonimmigrant foreign nationals in the U.S. who wish to work abroad or to travel abroad for business or pleasure, the Firm acquires foreign visitors' visas, temporary residence permits and work authorization, including transfers to Canada and Mexico under the NAFTA. In addition to dealing with the American-based embassies to acquire appropriate classifications, we use our contacts in foreign government agencies to ensure that cases of corporate personnel are quickly adjudicated.
Naturalization/Citizenship
When individuals wish to be naturalized as U.S. Citizens, we follow a step-by-step approach to ensure that all documents are properly acquired and that the applicant is advised of the requirements to make the process as expedient as possible. Wherein citizenship has been lost through voluntary renunciation or by other means, the Firm assists in the reacquisition of U.S. Citizenship in accordance with applicable laws.
Re-Entry Permits
To assist our clients who are being transferred abroad, we utilize our network-based case management system to ensure that their U.S. permanent residency does not lapse due to extensive time spent outside of the U.S. A re-entry permit serves as a valid re-entry document, facilitating re-entry after an absence of up to two years. Prior to the initiation of the transfer process, our office assesses the potential risk to U.S. permanent residency and applies for a re-entry permit when applicable.
Waivers
Before some individuals are eligible for U.S. immigration benefits, a waiver of the two-year foreign residence requirement must be obtained. The Firm is well versed in assisting individuals in this process, as well as other waivers, when necessary.
